Financial Partnerships

The Research Chair in Obesity carries out its own research activities, but also supports the activities of a group a researchers from the Québec City Area specializing in molecular biology, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, respirology, cardiology and surgery, who find interest in the causes, consequences, and treatment of obesity.

The major financial partners of the Chair are:

  • The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the main funding agency of the Chair
  • Merck Frosst Canada Ltd, an industrial partner funding some research projects as well as the Website and annual symposium

The International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk is an academic, independent and multidisciplinary platform. The Chair is a direct response to the soaring rates of abdominal obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease worldwide. The Chair brings together a group of 23 experts that focuses largely on the reasons why patients with excess intra-abdominal (visceral) fat are at increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

The Chair’s is a key component of its strategy. The website is the most comprehensive, up-to-date, and easy-to-use source of information on abdominal obesity and cardiometabolic risk. The Chair also publishes the CMReJournal, which is available through its website and provides up-to-date information on abdominal obesity and related cardiometabolic risk for a range of audiences.
